Ihor Bezkaravainyi presented Ukraine's National Mine Action Strategy at the GLOBSEC Forum in Prague. The Deputy Minister of Economy used the prestigious international security forum to highlight the scale of Ukraine's mine contamination challenge and the strategic approach to addressing it.
"GLOBSEC brings together the world's leading security thinkers and decision-makers. It was important for us to present Ukraine's mine action strategy here because demining is fundamentally a security issue — security of people, communities, and the economy," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi.
The presentation covered the key elements of the strategy: the 10-year goal of returning 80% of contaminated lands to productive use, the institutional framework, the capacity building plan, the innovation strategy, and the financing mechanisms.
"The audience at GLOBSEC was genuinely impressed by what Ukraine has achieved in building a mine action system from scratch in just two years. The strategy provides a clear roadmap that gives confidence to partners and donors," noted one of the forum participants.
The presentation led to several productive bilateral meetings with potential new partners and supporters. Some participants expressed interest in contributing to Ukraine's demining efforts.
"International forums like GLOBSEC are important platforms for advocacy. By presenting our strategy and results, we attract new support and strengthen existing partnerships," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
