Humanitarian demining: April 2024 results
July 18, 2024
The first applications for compensation for demining agricultural land have been submitted: more than 60 farmers have applied to participate in the programme. The applications were submitted through the State Agrarian Register — an online platform specifically adapted for the convenient submission of applications.
"More than 60 farmers have already submitted applications for participation in the compensation programme. This confirms that the demand for demining services is real, and the programme we have created is accessible and understandable for agricultural producers," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The applications came from farmers in the most contaminated regions — Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The total area of lands for which demining compensation has been requested amounts to thousands of hectares.
"We specifically designed the application process so that a farmer could fill out and submit an application with just a few clicks. Most of the data is pre-populated when the farmer registers in the State Agrarian Register. All that remains is to specify the plot and sign the application with a digital signature," explained the representative of the Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
The Centre for Humanitarian Demining verifies the submitted applications, checks whether the plots are located in confirmed or potentially contaminated areas, and then announces auctions in the Prozorro system for the selection of mine action operators.
"Each application is a specific farmer who wants to safely work on their land. Our task is to process applications as quickly as possible and organise auctions so that certified operators can begin work," noted the Deputy Minister.
The state programme compensates 80% of the cost of demining, while the remaining 20% is covered by the farmer. Funds from the state budget amounting to 3 billion hryvnias have been allocated for the programme.
