Demining in March: first thousand hectares under the compensation program and new financing opportunities

Demining in March: the first thousand hectares under the compensation programme and new financing opportunities. The monthly summary was presented by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

"March became a milestone for the compensation programme — we surpassed the mark of one thousand hectares of agricultural land cleared under this programme. This is a significant result that demonstrates the programme's effectiveness and its growing pace," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The first thousand hectares under the compensation programme were cleared in the most contaminated regions — Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions. The land has been returned to farmers for agricultural use.

"Every hectare of cleared agricultural land is a contribution to food security — both for Ukraine and for the world. Our farmers can now safely cultivate this land and produce the food the world needs," noted the Deputy Minister.

March also saw the emergence of new financing opportunities for demining. Several international partners announced additional commitments, and work continued on developing innovative financial instruments.

"We are diversifying funding sources — donor funding, state budget, innovative instruments. This comprehensive approach allows us to increase the total volume of resources directed to demining," explained Bezkaravainyi.

The results of the month confirmed positive trends in the development of the mine action sector — the growth of cleared areas, the expansion of operator capacity, and the strengthening of international partnerships.
