The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has established a cross-faction parliamentary group «Mine Action», which includes 13 Members of Parliament representing various factions and groups. The group aims to consolidate the efforts of parliamentarians to support a systematic approach to humanitarian demining and to modernise the regulatory framework in this area.

Oleksandr Horeniuk and Ihor Herasymenko, Members of Parliament, have been elected as co-chairs of the cross-faction group «Mine Action».

The main focus of the group's activities will be the development, submission, and support of a new version of the Law of Ukraine «On Mine Action in Ukraine» that meets current challenges and objectives. In particular, Ukraine is actively developing innovative technologies in the field of mine action: sensor technologies, satellite analytics, and artificial intelligence-based information systems — and their implementation requires updating the regulatory framework.

Other areas of the group's activities include:

Exercising parliamentary oversight in the field of mine action. Cooperation with parliaments of other countries, international organisations, donors, mine action operators, Ukrainian government agencies, territorial communities, and civil society. Analysing demining results in Ukraine, summarising international experience, and innovative solutions with a view to their implementation in national legislation. The Ukrainian Association for Humanitarian Demining and Recovery has assumed the function of the Secretariat of the Cross-Faction Group, whose specialists, together with members of parliament, worked on draft laws regarding the exemption from VAT and import duties on components for the production and repair of demining machines.
