International partners support Ukraine's mine action strategy

The Ministry of Economy has introduced a new code in the field of mine action. The new classification code formalises specific types of mine action activities within the national system of economic activity classification.

"The introduction of the new code is an important regulatory step that brings the classification system in line with the realities of the mine action sector. Now companies working in demining can accurately identify their economic activity, which simplifies registration, reporting, and procurement," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

Previously, mine action companies had to use general classification codes that did not accurately reflect the specifics of their work. This created difficulties in statistical accounting, procurement, and regulatory compliance.

"The new code accurately describes what mine action companies do, making it easier for the state, operators, and partners to identify and work with these companies through standardised classification," explained the Ministry representative.

The introduction of the code is part of the broader regulatory reform of the mine action sector, aimed at creating a clear, transparent, and efficient regulatory framework that supports the sector's dynamic development.

"A proper regulatory framework is the foundation of a sustainable sector. Each such regulatory improvement, even seemingly technical, has practical significance for the daily work of operators and the efficiency of the entire system," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
