Mine action certification system launched through the Diia portal
December 19, 2024
12 veterans with disabilities have completed a training course in mine action. The graduates received professional qualifications that enable them to work in the humanitarian demining sector.
"These 12 veterans have proven once again that disability is not a barrier to meaningful and important work. They have completed a rigorous training programme and are now qualified mine action specialists," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The course included theoretical training, practical exercises with equipment, and specialised skills adapted to the physical capabilities of each participant. The training focused on areas where veterans with disabilities can make the greatest contribution — including operating remote-controlled equipment, data analysis, and supervision.
"After my injury, I thought I would never be useful again. This course gave me a new purpose and a new profession. I am ready to work," shared one of the graduates.
Mine action operators participating in the programme have confirmed their readiness to hire the graduates, ensuring immediate employment opportunities.
"Each of these graduates is a success story — from injury to rehabilitation to a new career in a sector that protects lives. We plan to continue and expand this programme," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
