First demining operators began working under the state compensation program
January 17, 2025
The first plot has been cleared within the framework of the agricultural land demining compensation programme. This is a milestone that marks the transition of the programme from the organisational phase to real results.
"The first plot has been cleared — this means the programme works from start to finish. From the farmer's application through the auction, signing the contract, operator's work, and verification — the entire cycle has been completed. Now we can scale this up," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The cleared plot is located in one of the most contaminated regions. The certified mine action operator completed the clearance within the stipulated deadlines, and the quality of work was verified by the Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
"This is not just a cleared plot — it is proof that the system we built works. A transparent auction, competitive pricing, quality control — all elements function as intended," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
The farmer whose land was cleared can now safely use it for agricultural purposes. The state compensated 80% of the demining cost, and the farmer paid the remaining 20%.
The programme continues to expand — new applications from farmers are being received, auctions are being held, and operators are beginning work on new plots. The state budget has allocated 3 billion hryvnias for the programme.
