UNDP trains veterans for careers in mine action

The first auctions for demining agricultural land based on this year's applications from farmers have been announced. The auctions are being held in the Prozorro electronic procurement system, ensuring transparency and competitiveness.

"The first auctions of the new season have been announced. This means that the programme continues to work and farmers who submitted applications this year will have their lands cleared. We expect a significant increase in volumes compared to the previous year," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The auctions are announced for specific plots of agricultural land for which farmers have submitted applications for compensation. Certified mine action operators can participate in the auctions and compete for the right to perform clearance.

"The auction system ensures a competitive price and transparent selection of contractors. The farmer gets quality clearance at the best price, the operator gets work, and the state ensures quality control," explained the Deputy Minister.

Among the first announcements are plots in Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions — the most contaminated regions where the demand for demining services is highest.

"We plan to significantly increase the volume of auctions this year. The goal is to clear as much agricultural land as possible and return it to productive use," noted Bezkaravainyi.

The state budget has allocated significant funds for the compensation programme. The state compensates 80% of the cost of demining agricultural land.
