Palantir will help Ukraine demine territories using artificial intelligence: a pilot project has already been launched in Kharkiv region. The American technology company Palantir has partnered with the Ministry of Economy to implement AI-based solutions in humanitarian demining.

"Palantir's artificial intelligence technologies have proven their effectiveness in various fields. Now we are applying them to humanitarian demining — one of the greatest challenges facing Ukraine. The pilot in Kharkiv region will show how AI can accelerate and improve the quality of territory clearance," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The pilot project involves using Palantir's analytical platform for processing and analysing data from various sources — satellite imagery, aerial survey results, historical contamination data, and field reports. Artificial intelligence helps identify patterns and predict the most likely locations of explosive ordnance.

"We are not replacing sappers — we are providing them with tools that make their work safer and more efficient. AI analysis helps prioritise territories and direct resources where they will have the greatest impact," explained the Palantir representative.

The pilot has shown promising initial results — AI algorithms were able to identify high-risk areas with significant accuracy, which allowed operators to plan their work more efficiently.

"A pilot in Kharkiv region is just the beginning. If the results confirm the effectiveness of the approach, we plan to scale it across the country," noted the Deputy Minister.

The partnership with Palantir is part of Ukraine's broader innovation strategy in mine action, which also includes the use of drones, robotic platforms, and sensor technologies.
