The Netherlands announced additional support for mine action in Ukraine

In Ukraine, training in mine action for people affected by explosive ordnance has begun. The programme was launched by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine together with UNDP and with the support of international partners.
The training programme is designed for people who have been injured by mines, shells, and other explosive ordnance and wish to find a new profession in the mine action sector. Participants receive theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to work in various specialties — from non-technical survey to data analysis.
"People who themselves have been affected by explosive ordnance have a unique motivation and understanding of the importance of this work. We give them the opportunity not only to receive professional rehabilitation but also to make a personal contribution to making Ukraine safer," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The first group of participants includes both military veterans who received injuries during service and civilians who suffered from explosive ordnance in their communities. The programme is adapted to the physical capabilities of each participant.
"When I was injured by a mine, I thought my life was over. Now I understand that I can use my experience to help others. I know firsthand what mine contamination means and how important it is to clear these territories," shared one of the programme participants.
The programme provides not only training but also further employment. Mine action operators participating in the programme have confirmed their readiness to hire programme graduates. This ensures a real path from rehabilitation to a new career.
The training for mine-affected individuals is part of a broader inclusion policy that the Ministry of Economy implements in the mine action sector, together with programmes for veterans and women.
