Agricultural land return program milestone: 100,000 hectares surveyed

The mine action course for people affected by explosive ordnance has been completed: participants are already being offered jobs. Graduates of the programme received certificates and professional qualifications that allow them to work with certified mine action operators.

"This is more than just a training course — it is a new beginning for people whose lives were changed by an explosion. Today they have a new profession, new opportunities, and most importantly — real job offers. Several operators have already expressed their readiness to hire programme graduates," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The programme lasted several weeks and included theoretical training — studying the types of explosive ordnance, safety rules, and the regulatory framework — as well as extensive practical exercises in field conditions.

"When I was injured by a mine, I thought my useful life was over. This course showed me that I can contribute to clearing my country of the same threat that harmed me. Now I have a profession and an employer who is waiting for me," shared one of the graduates.

Mine action operators participating in the programme confirmed their readiness to hire graduates, ensuring a direct transition from training to employment. This approach guarantees that the investment in training produces immediate practical results.

The programme was developed by the Ministry of Economy together with UNDP and certified operators. It is part of a broader social inclusion policy that ensures access to employment in the mine action sector for vulnerable groups — people with disabilities, veterans, and women.
