Overview of mine contamination in Ukraine: scale and impacts

Specialists from the underwater demining unit of the Pyrotechnic Works Section of the Special Purpose Emergency Rescue Unit of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Chernihiv region continue surveying and clearing one of the lakes near the city of Chernihiv. Metre by metre, divers inspect the bottom of the water body in search of explosive items.

Since the liberation of the region, explosive ordnance disposal specialists have surveyed dozens of water bodies. The work is carried out in difficult conditions — limited visibility, cold water, and the constant danger of encountering unexploded ordnance.
