Assistance to victims of explosive ordnance in Ukraine: the Danish Refugee Council presented an analysis of the needs of affected individuals. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by mine victims and recommendations for improving support systems.
"The analysis by the Danish Refugee Council is an important contribution to our understanding of the needs of mine victims. The report identifies specific gaps in medical, psychological, and social support and proposes evidence-based recommendations for addressing them," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The report covers several key areas: access to medical care and rehabilitation, prosthetic services, psychological support, economic reintegration, and the needs of children and other vulnerable groups among the affected.
"Every victim of explosive ordnance has unique needs. Our analysis shows that while the medical system is coping with immediate treatment, there are significant gaps in long-term rehabilitation and social integration," noted the report's author.
The recommendations will be used by the Government and international partners to design and improve support programmes for mine victims.
"Victim assistance is one of the five pillars of the National Mine Action Strategy. The DRC report helps us understand where we need to focus our efforts to ensure comprehensive support for affected people," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
