Agricultural land demining in November: over 22,000 hectares returned to farmers
February 3, 2025
Mine action operators have cleared three more plots of agricultural land. The clearance was performed within the framework of the state programme for compensating the cost of demining agricultural land.
"Three more plots of agricultural land have been cleared and returned to farmers. The total area of the cleared plots amounts to several hundred hectares. This is land that can now be safely used for growing crops and sustaining farming operations," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The clearance was performed by certified operators who won auctions in the Prozorro electronic procurement system. The quality of work was verified by the Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
"Every cleared plot is the result of the system working as designed — from the farmer's application through the auction and the operator's work to quality verification. The programme functions stably and delivers results," noted the Deputy Minister.
The cleared plots are located in the most contaminated regions of Ukraine. The farmers whose land was cleared can now begin preparing for the sowing season.
The state programme compensates 80% of the cost of demining. The state budget has allocated 3 billion hryvnias for the programme. To date, dozens of auctions have been held, and the total area of cleared agricultural land continues to grow.
