A mine action coordination council to be established under the Ministry of Economy
July 14, 2025
A coordination council on mine action will be created under the Ministry of Economy. The decision formalises an interagency coordination mechanism that will ensure unified management of the mine action sector.
"The coordination council will bring together all key agencies and organisations involved in mine action — the Ministry of Economy, the State Emergency Service, the Armed Forces, the Mine Action Centre, and others. This ensures unified leadership and coordinated efforts," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The council will be responsible for developing policy, coordinating activities among agencies, monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy, and managing interaction with international partners.
"Effective interagency coordination is critical for the mine action sector, which involves multiple government bodies, international organisations, and private companies. The coordination council provides a forum for joint decision-making," noted the Deputy Minister.
The creation of the council is provided for by the National Mine Action Strategy and represents an important institutional step in building a sustainable and efficient mine action system.
"With over 100 operators, thousands of sappers, and dozens of international partners working on demining — coordination is not optional, it is essential," emphasised Bezkaravainyi.
