Ministry of Economy and OSCE conducted an introductory course on humanitarian demining for communities

The Ministry of Economy and OSCE held an introductory course on humanitarian demining for communities. The course was designed for local government representatives and community leaders to help them understand the mine action process and how to interact effectively with operators and government agencies.

"Communities are key stakeholders in the demining process. Local authorities need to understand how demining works, what their role is, and how they can facilitate the process in their territories. This course gives them this knowledge," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The course covered the main aspects of mine action: what types of activities exist, how to submit a request for demining, what to expect from the process, and how to ensure community safety during and after clearance.

"Community leaders are often the first point of contact for residents who encounter explosive ordnance. It is crucial that they know how to respond correctly and where to direct requests," noted the OSCE representative.

The course also covered the agricultural land demining compensation programme and how communities can participate and receive benefits. Participants received information materials and contacts for further consultation.

"We plan to continue holding such courses in all regions with mine contamination. An informed community is a safer community," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
