Agricultural land demining: in October, over 24,000 hectares returned to farmers
November 6, 2024
Demining of agricultural land in October: farmers received more than 24,000 hectares for use. This is another significant monthly result confirming the growing pace of humanitarian demining.
"More than 24,000 hectares of cleared agricultural land in October — that is an impressive result. Month by month, we see a steady increase in the pace of clearing, which confirms that the system is working and scaling up effectively," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The cleared lands are located in the most contaminated regions — Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The clearance was performed by certified mine action operators.
"Behind every hectare of cleared land is a farmer who can now safely harvest their crops, plan the next season, and invest in their farm. This is the real impact of demining," noted the Deputy Minister.
Since the beginning of the year, the total area of demined agricultural land has grown to hundreds of thousands of hectares, bringing Ukraine closer to its strategic goal.
"We continue to increase capacity and expect the pace to grow further. More operators, more machines, more specialists — each element contributes to accelerating demining," emphasised Bezkaravainyi.
