Ukraine presented its experience at the International Mine Action Conference in Dubrovnik

"Pathways to Resilience" in Ukraine: problems and solutions for victims of explosive ordnance were discussed. The event brought together representatives of the government, international organisations, medical institutions, and civil society to discuss the challenges faced by people injured by mines and other explosive ordnance.

"The victims of explosive ordnance are among the most vulnerable people in Ukraine. They need comprehensive support — medical rehabilitation, psychological help, social integration, and employment opportunities. This event aimed to develop concrete solutions for each of these areas," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

Participants discussed several key areas: improving access to medical and prosthetic care, developing psychological support programmes, creating opportunities for professional retraining, and integrating victims into the mine action labour market.

"Many victims of explosive ordnance can and want to work in the mine action sector. They have a unique understanding of the problem and high motivation. Our task is to create conditions for their inclusion," noted the UNDP representative.

The event also featured success stories of people who have overcome the consequences of injuries and built new careers, including in the mine action sector. These stories demonstrate that with the right support, victims can become active members of society.

"The 'Pathways to Resilience' is not just a slogan — it is a programme of action. We are developing specific mechanisms of support that will help people recover and find a new purpose in life," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
