Compensation program for demining agricultural land: how it works
May 9, 2025
In April, farmers received nearly 300 more hectares of land demined at the state's expense. The clearance was performed within the framework of the state compensation programme for the cost of demining agricultural land.
"Nearly 300 hectares in one month — the programme is gaining momentum. These are specific fields that farmers can now safely cultivate and produce the food that Ukraine and the world need," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The cleared plots are located in the most contaminated regions — Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions. The clearance was performed by certified mine action operators who won auctions in the Prozorro electronic procurement system.
"The compensation programme has proven its effectiveness — transparent auctions, competitive pricing, quality control. Farmers see the results and are submitting new applications," noted the Deputy Minister.
Since the programme's launch, thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been cleared and returned to productive use. The state budget has allocated 3 billion hryvnias for the programme.
"We are not stopping — new auctions are being announced, and operators are continuing to work. The goal is to clear as much agricultural land as possible so that Ukrainian farmers can safely produce the agricultural products that the world needs," emphasised Bezkaravainyi.
