Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law on Mine Action

Japan is ready to host the Conference on Mine Action in Ukraine, which will take place in autumn 2025. The announcement confirms Japan's commitment as a key partner in humanitarian demining of Ukraine.

"Japan's readiness to host UMAC 2025 demonstrates the country's unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine's mine action efforts. The conference in Tokyo will be an opportunity to showcase progress, attract new commitments, and strengthen international cooperation," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The conference programme is being developed jointly by the Ukrainian and Japanese sides. Key topics will include innovation, scaling of capacity, financing mechanisms, and the nexus approach that integrates demining with recovery.

"Japan brings unique perspectives and expertise to the mine action field. Hosting the conference in Tokyo will raise the profile of Ukraine's demining efforts in Asia and open new opportunities for partnerships," noted the Japanese representative.

UMAC has become the primary international platform for coordinating support for humanitarian demining of Ukraine. Previous conferences in Zagreb (2023) and Lausanne (2024) attracted dozens of countries and resulted in significant new commitments.

"Each UMAC conference builds on the previous one. We expect Tokyo to set new records for participation and commitments, bringing us closer to the goal of a mine-free Ukraine," emphasised the Deputy Minister.
