Yuliia Svyrydenko and Japanese Ambassador Nakagome Masashi discussed opportunities to accelerate demining

Yuliia Svyrydenko and the Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Nakagome Masashi discussed opportunities for accelerating demining. The meeting focused on expanding Japanese support for humanitarian demining in Ukraine.

"Japan is one of our key strategic partners in humanitarian demining. In our meeting with Ambassador Nakagome, we discussed specific steps to accelerate the pace of clearance — from additional equipment supplies to joint innovation projects," said Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

The parties discussed several key areas of cooperation: the supply of additional demining machines and equipment, the training of Ukrainian specialists in Japan, joint projects on localisation of demining equipment production in Ukraine, and preparation for the UMAC 2025 conference in Tokyo.

"Japan has committed significant resources to supporting humanitarian demining in Ukraine and is ready to increase this support. We see demining as a key precondition for Ukraine's recovery and are prepared to contribute to achieving this goal," stated Ambassador Nakagome.

The meeting also touched upon the issue of innovative financing of demining — the possibility of Japan's involvement in developing innovative financial instruments to attract additional resources for the sector.

"We are working to ensure that Japanese support is as effective as possible — not only through direct funding but also through technology transfer, specialist training, and business development," emphasised Svyrydenko.
