Agricultural land demining: record plot cleared in Kharkiv region
October 1, 2025
Agricultural land demining: a record-sized plot has been cleared in Kharkiv region. The clearing of this plot became the largest single demining project within the state compensation programme.
"The clearing of a record-sized plot in Kharkiv region is proof that our programme can handle large-scale tasks. This is not just a number — it is hundreds of hectares of fertile land that a farmer can now safely use," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The clearance was performed by a certified mine action operator that won the contract through an auction in the Prozorro electronic procurement system. The work was completed within the established timeframe, and the quality was verified by the Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
"This is the result of the system working as designed — transparent auction, competitive pricing, quality control. The scale of this project shows that we can handle plots of any size," noted the Deputy Minister.
The cleared plot is located in one of the most contaminated areas of Kharkiv region, which was affected by intense hostilities. The land has been returned to the farmer for agricultural use.
"We aim to increase the scale of projects within the compensation programme. The more land we clear, the more food Ukraine can produce and the stronger is our contribution to global food security," emphasised Bezkaravainyi.
