Demining in September: record cleared area, operator certification in Diia, and new tools from the Sectoral Working Group

Demining in September: a record-size cleared plot, operator certification in action, and new instruments of the Sectoral Working Group. The monthly summary of humanitarian demining was presented by the Ministry of Economy.

"September was marked by several important achievements: the largest plot to date was cleared within the compensation programme, the pace of operator certification accelerated, and the Sectoral Working Group adopted new tools for coordinating international support," said Ihor Bezkaravainyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The record-sized cleared plot amounted to several hundred hectares of agricultural land in one of the most contaminated regions. The clearance was performed by a certified operator within the state compensation programme framework.

"Every record is proof that the system is scaling up. We started with small plots and today we are clearing hundreds of hectares in a single project. This trajectory gives us confidence that our strategic goal is achievable," noted the Deputy Minister.

The certification of new mine action operators also showed positive dynamics — several new companies received certifications in September, increasing the total number of certified operators. This is critically important for building up the sector's capacity.

The Sectoral Working Group at its meeting adopted new instruments for coordinating donor support, which will enable more effective alignment of international assistance with Ukraine's national priorities. Participants discussed progress, challenges, and priority areas for the coming period.
